The British singer, entertainer and composer Jamie Cullum and Aarhus Jazz Orchestra are going to give an incredible concert in the Concert Hall at the official opening of Aarhus Jazz Festival.

The tradition of the local jazz orchestra working with the big stars continues. In previous years they have played together with names such as David Sanborn, Kira Skov and Mads Mathias.

Jamie Cullum is one of the best-selling crooners of the 20 century, and he has the ability and versatility to blur musical genres with his unique take on jazz, pop and big band-music. With respect to the jazz tradition and personal interpretations of modern classics, Jamie Cullum has become this century’s inheritor after Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet and Billy Joel.

In 2003, he released the breakthrough record “Twentysomething” with a mixture of jazz standards, famous ballads and his own compositions. After “Twentysomething”, he became the best-selling jazz artist in Great Britain ever. His success has brought him around the world including tours from Seoul Jazz Festival to the International Jazz Day at the White House in Washington. He has also started his own successful radio programme, and worked with stars such as Kylie Minogue, Pharrel Williams, Sugarbabes, will.i.am, Burt Bacharach and countless symphony orchestras and big bands. Today, he has more than 10 million sold albums worldwide.

Jamie Cullum is a modern performer, who loves to play music by Duke Ellington, Nina Simone and Cannonball Adderley side by side with piano versions of The White Stripes, Kanye West, Massive Attack, Pharrell, Rihanna, Jimi Hendrix, Radiohead, Elton John, Justin Timberlake, Joy Division and Lady Gaga.

Aarhus Jazz Orchestra is one of Europe’s leading big bands. The orchestra has produced excellent musical experiences since its establishment in 1977, by the legendary Jens Klüver. The orchestra consists of some of the best musicians of the Danish jazz scene, and several of them are international class soloists.
